Earlier this summer, Special Olympics of Southern California (SOSC) held their annual Men’s basketball tournament in the BC gym. This is part of an ongoing partnership with Special Olympics, which has held Track & Field and Bocce ball events at the college in the past.
The SOSC Kern County program offers year-round sports training and competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics provides training for life. Not only providing its participants with physical fitness and athletic competition, but also social interaction, community involvement, and empowerment. More than 13,000 athletes in 11 counties participate in Southern California.
“We’re looking forward to holding more events at the college in the coming year. Please pass on our gratitude for the partnership we are having with Bakersfield College. It really has brightened the lives of our local athletes and parents.” –Davida Murphy, Special Olympics Kern County Regional Director
