L-M-N-O-P…Look for Maintenance N’ Operations on Parade!
The Maintenance & Operations department (M&O) at Bakersfield College has really been busy this past year. Did you know M&O actually has three sub-departments, all working together to keep BC running smoothly? They are:
- Custodial Services: Cleaning and servicing offices, classrooms and common areas.
- Grounds Operations: Landscaping, irrigation and grounds maintenance.
- Trades Group: Electrical, electronic technology, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, painting and craftsman services.
Jim Coggins heads up the department, and with the help of Cheryl Moncier, Executive Secretary, and a team of experts in their respective fields, consisting of over 30 employees, they take care of more than 20 buildings and common outdoor areas.
This hardworking group gathered for a summer retreat, relaxing and socializing over lunch before the “call to duty” of fall semester.
Meet some of the team:
Custodial: Ramon Puga, Glenn Fields, Carlos Barbaran, Steven Barrett, David Branson, Guillermo Castro, Gregory Davis, Martha Gonzalez, Jesus Morales, Rachell Morehouse, Ruben Rosales, Veronica Sanchez, Caroline Walth, Raymond Zaragoza
Grounds: Patrick Harrison, Hector Canchola, Gilbert Merjil, Patrick Cornejo, Antero Medina, Jose Salmeron, Michael Vera, Andy Willcut
Trades: Bill Garrett, Don Birdwell, Mitch Barter, Steve Shafer, Dennis Spencer, Frank Tinoco, Jimmy Smith, Martin Ramirez
Walking around campus, we don’t think about the effort it takes to keep things running smoothly, providing a safe and inviting area for study, socializing and reflection. When you see our M&O colleagues passing by, be sure to thank them for making BC a great place to be. Carlos Barbaran, thank you for your keen attention to the administration building. It is a great pleasure to see you early every morning as I walk to my office.
