BC’s Jazz Ensemble is just magnificent!

The Bakersfield College Jazz Ensemble held its Fall Concert on Monday November 24th. The newly-opened Simonsen Performing Arts Center served as the venue (its first time showcasing the ensemble since its reopening). Directed by Kris Tiner, the BC Jazz Ensemble played a selection of classic and modern jazz, featuring music by legendary jazz composers Thelonious Monk, Oliver Nelson, Thad Jones, Gerry Mulligan, Duke Ellington, Freddie Hubbard. The work of talented student composers Omar Murillo and Amanda McCaslin was also featured.

If you didn’t have the chance to check it out, here is a clip of them performing “A-hunk-a-hunk” by Thad Jones.

I encourage everyone to come out to their next concert in the spring — you’ll be supporting local music and our faculty and students, and I guarantee you a wonderful evening filled with great music!
